Survival Packs
A Survival pack or kit
is a smaller bag that has essential items for surviving a short term emergency.
The things in your survival pack can make the difference between life and
death. A lot of people don't understand the importance of a well thought out
survival pack. With your pack alone you should be able to survive a week or
weeks if necessary, this is something that should always be in the back of your
mind when creating your life line. The supplies in your pack need to be
multiple use items that have the ability to sustain yourself over a period of
time.
Building a Survival Pack
When picking the pack itself,
you should be considering what you need to fit in your survival pack and how
much you can carry all together. When buying survival items for your pack think
do I need this or do I want this because there’s a big difference when you’re
surviving, if it’s not absolutely necessary then it shouldn't be in there.
Designing a pack could cost anywhere from 20 dollars to several hundreds of
dollars depending on what you might already have and how much you’re willing to
spend. If you’re creating a survival pack on a budget then consider what would be
the most important items for that particular outing.
The most important thing in your pack is a good survival knife which could be used for starting a fire, skinning an animal or making a weapon to name just a few examples. Even a cheap survival knife that has a good blade is much better then nothing at all. A well thought out
pack does not have food in it, it has ways to put food on the table. Instead of
having beef jerky in your pack you have a piece of aircraft cable or Para-cord
capable of snaring big or small game allowing for longer term survival. Knowledge
is everything when it comes to surviving; a piece of Para-cord is just a piece
of string if you don't know what you’re doing with it.
